Aboard a pirate ship at nightfall, a lone swabbie dedicates a song to the one constant in his life: The Moon.
Land Lover is a stop motion music video about a plucky pirate named Miles who is deeply in love with the moon. So in love, in fact, that he picks up a fiddle and sings a shanty for her, going on an imaginative journey through the ocean meeting legendary pirates, kraken, and sirens during his effort to reach the moon and earn her love.
This is my thesis film for UCLA's MFA Animation Workshop and combined a number of techniques in stop motion animation, textile fabrication, and hybrid ball-and-socket & wire armature puppet fabrication. I acted as the director, animator, and production designer for this film according to my program's motto: "One Person, One Film"

Here is the video showing the process of the ocean machinery for Land Lover! Built from wood, this automaton is used to act as the ocean "mover", with a handmade tapestry layered atop it to create a textured, soft, comforting ocean!
You can find more of this process on my Instagram, CosmicFuss!
